New Business:

Jim Cassidy let us know our show trophies have been ordered and we as a club need to get out there and get some sponsor’s for Our Show trophies or Raffle prizes for the Raffle table, we ONLY have 51 days to get the sponsorships into Dayna to make the name plates that go on the trophies. Right now we have still 37 trophy classes to get sponsors for, we ONLY have 44 classes, folks need to get hot and get some sponsor’s!

Brought up that  we need about 175 goody bags to fill with all kinds of items for the goody bags, also that Dayna needs to get us lists of folks that the memberships have talked to, whether the folks said “Yes” or “No” so we don’t keep overwhelming them about donations!  Jim will get with Dayna about this so he can also keep the lists updated about who is sponsoring what class etc.

Also, membership is attending the “Mustangs on the Waterfront” show in Port Orchard, probably having a caravan organized to head to the show!

Fourth (fifth) of July Picnic at Jerry Dixon's

The Fourth of July picnic at Jerry Dixon's was a great event!
We started out by meeting at the VA Museum in Chehalis and after a great tour of the museum, we caravaned up the hill to Jerry's house.
Jerry and Cathy, and usual, were great hosts! The food was beyond what could have been expected! Great desserts, too!
We told stories, played crochet, played horse shoes, threw Frisbees, and generally just had a lot of fun!
The fireworks Jerry supplied were awesome! Even Jerry's new neighbor got involved and brought over some impressive aerials, too!
But, my favorite time was after the fireworks, sitting around the fire telling stories and laughing!
Everyone there had a great story or a great joke and it made the time absolutely fly until everyone noticed it was midnight!!
I would like to extend my thanks to Jerry for inviting Mustangs West to his home and hosting this now annual event!
I will be there next year!
In fact, Jerry has already set the date for July 3rd, so that it doesn't interfere with anyone's fourth of July plans!
In attendance throughout the day were: Al and Ruth Schaffler, Jimmy and Judy McCulloch, Chad and Karena Peterson, Chuck and Claudia Manley, Jodi Hodgson, Shan Dobson, Ed & Susan Hibbert, Lura Winters, Tina Boos, Larry and Charlene Rivera, Jim and Taylor Cassidy, and Jerry and Cathy (of course).
There were others there, but I can't remember names (as most of you know!).

Again, I would like to extend my personal thanks to Jerry for his hospitality!
I will be there again next year!!
Hope you are, too!

Classy Chassis Car Show at Fort Lewis, WA

July 4th, 2008

By Wendy Minnieweather

What a day for the Fourth of July, I had July 3rd off to get the Stangs somewhat ready for the show, but the 2005 was outside the evening of the July 3rd so I got all kinds of stuff on it from the trees around the house!  So, since Robert said he was going to get money to spend at the show, I headed down the hill to run the 05 through the car wash to get the tree stuff off the Stang!  We met up at the weigh station on HWY 16 heading to Tacoma, but I lost Robert going through the toll booths at the Narrows Bridge as he had the Good to Go pass on the 88 GT/HB!  I was finally able to catch up with him at our exit off the I-5 (Exit 120)!  Robert really likes to get up and move in the 88 GT/HB and the sound of it too, those Flowmasters, pretty awesome!

Anyway, we got to the show right after Jim got there, so three of us four Mustangs West were parked next to each other at the show at Fort Lewis, WA!  Which was pretty cool that we ended up coming from Port Orchard and Jim from Olympia and we ended up by each other at the show without any prior planning whatsoever!  We just knew that each of us were planning on coming to the Fort Lewis show!

In case some of you didn’t know Classy Chassis is part of the Freedom Festival on the 4th of July that has been going on at Fort Lewis for several years!  They then expanded to include the car show at Memorial Stadium right by the Freedom Festival and this year they’ve expanded the Freedom Festival to include carnival rides this year that the adults could have fun riding!

Reason those of us participate in this event even though we know we don’t have a chance in getting any kind of hardware (it’s a Chevy show), we go to have fun and take in the festival and the food galore (can eat all day long), so you go home stuffed that’s for sure!  I managed to talk Bob Rynard into participating in this show at a previous event and since he works on Fort Lewis, he could definitely get on base with his Stangs!  Well, Bob brought one of his Stangs as the other one was all over the garage floor in many pieces!

Mustangs West members that made it to this show were: Myself (2005 CP), Robert (1988 GT/HB), Bob Rynard (65 FB), and Jim Cassidy (1999 CP), thought there would be a little more folks, but the weatherman had overcast and sprinkling predicted for the forecast on the 4th of July, and yes, it did sprinkle on us throughout the day, but not very much!  Not that we don’t live in Washington State or anything like that, it is the Evergreen State isn’t it!

Teddy Bear Picnic at American Heritage Campground, Olympia, WA

June 22nd, 2008

By Wendy Minnieweather

What an Awesome time everyone had that showed up for this picnic organized by our club members Jean and Dave Doan and their son!  Well, Chris Hutchison made it to the campground pavilion before Rob Jr. and myself, we brought both of our Mustangs too, because we had the pop in the coolers that we still had from the display at the Five Star Ford in Aberdeen that we did in April!  All of you, I’m sure remember the Gray’s Harbor county weather that whole day, we drank coffee and cocoa to keep us warm, because it felt like winter was still hanging around!  Plus, I brought down the secretary things, such as the membership applications, Our Show flyers, Pierce county show flyers, business cards and other show flyers for shows in the area, I also brought about 9 Teddy Bears and Raffle Donations and the Prize Donation for the Egg Toss winners!

I set about getting a table set up for the Membership applications and show flyers and then we announced that I was selling the Raffle tickets for the different Raffle Donations, everyone got in line to get their tickets early and to hang-on to them all day, since we didn’t start the Raffle till about 2:45PM and then moved on into the game winner’s prizes! After getting most of us parked around 11:00AM, someone started up the BBQ and got the Burgers and Hot Dogs cooking and all the side dishes arranged on the picnic tables for everyone to self-serve themselves what they wanted to eat!  After everyone had their fill for awhile it was time to get out our folding chairs and go around and see who all made it to the picnic and do some catching up with old friends we haven’t seen in awhile and meet new friends and try and make them members of our club, which we were successfully in doing, with our entertainment for most of the day, Paul played his flute for us, “Thank you, Paul that was really awesome for you to do that for us” I really think that made this picnic special too!

All of the Mustangers that made it to this event were: Ted Lewallen, Robert King, Clay Concannon, Chris Hutchison, Al & Ruth Schaffler, Marty & Jeanette Robbins, W. C. & Tammy Petty & family, Mike & Laura Dunson, Edd Johnson, Lou & Ella Cofoni, Chuck & Claudia Manley, Mark Smith, Bob Gillett, Jake Gillett, Jim Cassidy, Chad & Karena Peterson with Jake, Robert & Wendy Minnieweather & Rob, Justin & Heather O’Daniel with his Mom, Mike & Rachel Lanigan, Eric & Holly Jensen with Jordan, Clint & Alee, Sonny & Barb Alvarez with Versace, Pete & Nancy Freeman, Jon Gilstrom, Jean & Dave Doan with their son, Paul Manuel (New Mustangs West member, Congratulations!), Seth Brown, Bob & Phyllis Thomas, Lance & Sandra Smith, Tony & Renca Mervin, Dan Scott, Mark Smith, Jim Lively & LM Landon, Brad & Darla Wilkins, with original Mustangs West member’s making an appearance were Bob Berglund, Ernie & Stephanie Brown, and Ed Hood.  I’m sure I didn’t get everyone but I tried the best that I could with everyone walking around all day, it was a little difficult getting everyone accounted for at times.  So, please forgive the misspellings and if I missed you, I’m sorry, but I do hope all of you had a great time at the picnic!

Once again I want to go out with a “Thank-you” to Jean & Dave Doan with their son for organizing this successful “Teddy Bear” picnic.  After all we all brought in 173 Teddy Bears to be given to St. Pete’s Emergency Room for the children and our mascot was also named “Bear Stang Teddy”, which will be on display till next year at American Heritage campground there in Olympia!  Plus, with everyone’s participation in the Raffle Donations we were able to earn $157.00 to go to the various charities our club gives to towards the end of the year after our show earnings in September, last year our club was able to give to four different charities at the end of the year and everyone of them were completely surprised and gratefully for our donations to them!  “Thank you” to all of you that came out and made this a very successful event, we had a great time and we hope you did too, see you next year!

Mason County Historical Society Car Show, Shelton, WA

June 29th, 2008

By Wendy Minnieweather

Summer has finally showed up here in Washington!  I can’t believe it, two weekends in a row that we’ve just had awesome weather, yesterday at the car show it was about 91 degrees!  Trust me, yesterday my neighbor and I found shade around the buildings and trees in downtown Shelton, we have learned from the Lacey Spring Fun Fair that we need to find shade and put on lots of sunscreen!  With that said, I didn’t have any evidence on me at work today that I was out yesterday in the hot sun, I didn’t look like a cooked lobster at work today!

Lou, let us all know that we needed to be at the show EARLY, because of the weather that was forecast for Sunday (sunny all day)!  Lou was right, my neighbor Bridgette and I arrived about 9:00AM and we still felt late, even though they didn’t start parking cars til about 8:00AM, but folks were backed up at the gates! By the time, Bridgette and I registered my number was 180 and hers was 155 (2 different registration lines), so we figured we were definitely late, well turns out we were about the middle of the arrival time, so we didn’t do bad for the first time either of us have been to this show!  After all, there were more arrivals way after us, with about 380 others participating, plus others that I’m sure just came to park their cars and walk around the show!

Turns out when you register for this show, you have a choice of TWO categories that you can register for.  Wow, it took me forever to figure out which category I wanted to participate in, now I have two choices, so I chose Daily Driver and Presidents Ford, Bushes, and Clinton ERA (1975 – present)!  Like I even had a chance of winning anything at this show, they only give out one trophy per class, there were only 40 classes, and there were 380 or more participants for 40 trophies!  I can say what I liked about this show though is, us, the participants not having to vote at this show!  We got to kick back and relax and people watch, which was pretty cool!  Of course, this is all done after we’ve wiped down the cars a little bit and put my new dash plaque with my others on display! After all the necessary stuff was done, such as wiping down the cars, putting out the displays and talking with others that made it to the show it was time to head off to breakfast and hopefully they would have air-conditioning, cause it was already getting hot by 10:30AM!

All of the Mustangs West members that made it to this show were: Myself (1988 GT/HB), Mike & Laura Dunson (2007 Stage 3 Roush/CP), Jon Gilstrom (69 Mach I), Gerald Stuart (2006 Stage 3 Roush/CP), Al & Ruth Schaffler (68 CV) and Lou & Ella Cofoni (65 CP)(working at the show), plus my neighbors that drive a 70 Cougar! Plus as an added bonus for Lou, was getting the trophy for President Lynden B. Johnson ERA (1964-1968)(as close to stock as possible)! Congratulations Lou & Ella!

Also with summer upon us, it is car show season, seems that we have choices between 2 or 3 shows every weekend, so our membership is attending different shows throughout Washington State and hopefully enjoying all the shows like we did in downtown Shelton and finding a must eat at place like the Nifty Fifty’s BBQ and diner in Shelton!  I especially liked the Fruit Smoothie (Strawberry) for the day!  Good Stuff!
